[19/12/2007] 007 BY LAKE COMO - THE HUNT FOR THE FILM SET HAS STARTED!

Keep your eyes wide open: you could be right next to the new James Bond! Just a few weeks ago the announcement was made that Lake Como and its prestigious villas will once again be the backdrop to a cinema production of international attraction. May and June shall see the Lake Como shores becoming the set to none other than the new film recounting the latest adventures of 007 secret agent. Called Casinò Royale, the film shall be directed by Martin Campbell, who was the hand behind a previous Bond movie, Goldeneye, starring Pierce Brosnan. The new 007 film is a remake of the great 1967 film of the same name, which saw Peter Sellers, Ursula Andress and a very young Woody Allen among the cast. Initially it seemed that Villa Balbianello in Lenno (where George Lucas shot the last scene in the Star Wars saga) had been, chosen as the main filming location. However, subsequently Villa Erba in Cernobbio was selected – a cinema Œveteran¹ since it was not only home to the great film-maker Luchino Visconti for several years but also the setting to some of the most thrilling scenes in Ocean¹s Twelve, with George Clooney, Vincent Cassel and Julia Roberts. The new bond girl is the American Eva Green, who many no doubt recall as the gorgeous lady in Bernardo Bertolucci¹s The Dreamers, or playing the sensual Sibylla alongside Orlando Bloom in Ridley Scott¹s blockbuster Kingdom of Heaven. One of the surprises in the cast comes in the form of the Italian Caterina Murino, who starred in a prominent role by Jean Renò¹s side in the film Corsican File. Casinò Royale is eagerly awaited also because it marks the debut of a new James Bond. The winning candidate is the one originally considered the outsider. His name is Daniel Craig, he¹s British, and he shall now have the honour of playing Fleming¹s famed character. Craig¹s rich c.v. also includes a part in a controversial film from 2003, The Mother, as well as a role in Steven Spielberg¹s recent work, Munich (2005). The scenes to be shot in the Lake Como area are fundamental to the movie¹s storyline and hence the whole cast shall be attending the week¹s filming. Besides the Bahamas, where the actors are currently busy on the set, some of the movie scenes will take place in Prague and on the Venetian canals, and very likely also at the ŒCampione d¹Italia¹ Casino – in short, a list of prestigious locations that now regularly includes the Como area.
